Contents: Participate in the ‘Gangneung Dano Festival’, which is designated as the UNESCO World Heritage, to experience the cultivated and folk customs and visit Pyeongchang, the host city of the Winter Olympics, to visit the Olympic Promotion Center to experience the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics in advance.

  1. Winter Olympics Snow Games
    Ski Jump: Ski jump is a sport in which sportsmen ski down the steep ski slopes (35 – 37°) with the speed of over 90Km/h and land the most far and steadily go down from the impact zone to the landing. It is also called the crown jewel of all ski games because of its beautiful gliding and flying techniques.
    Cross-Country Ski: Cross-country Ski is a race, during which a sportsman skies through snowy fields and finishes in a short time. The course of the race consists of uphill, flat, and downhill in ratios of 1/3, and the players use the classical and free techniques.
    Biathlon: Biathlon is a winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and shooting. The sportsmen ski a certain distance with their rifles on their backs and shoot at the designated shooting range.
  2. Gangneung Danoje Festival
    Dano is a big holiday in Gangneung. It is the oldest festival in Korea that has been celebrated in the Gangneung Region on Dano Day, the lunar month of May 5th. On this day traditional memorial rites for the God were held. During this festival, there are various kinds of Dano-gut, which hold traditional memorial rites for the God of mountains and patron saints, various folk plays traditional music and folk songs, masquerade plays are also held. Before and after the Dano Day, people hold traditional memorial rites for God of Daegwallyeong Mountain and pray for safety of mountain roads, full harvest, the big catch of fish, and peace for their families. Danoje Festival is designated as the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2005.
