I recently went on the Haenyeo experience for one weekend this July.
We had to leave rather early, which is understandable, but it made everyone a little tired on our way to the first destination. I really enjoyed the presentation on the Haenyeo, but found myself falling asleep in my seat just because I needed food. If you’re going – bring snacks!
The haenyeo experience itself was interesting 🙂 The people helping with the swimming gear were really funny, and the haenyeo were also pretty spunky. One even hand-fed me sea urchin she had just pulled from the sea! It wasn’t for me, but it could be awkward for foreigners who aren’t used to changing their clothes in front of strangers 😉 Swimming was pretty hard because I’m not used to flippers, but we were allowed to just sit in the shallow area and enjoy the water which was great on a hot day.
Dinner was a little difficult for my taste buds since I’m not the biggest fan of shellfish, so once again – bring snacks 😉 The hotel was great and we were able to run and get ice cream and other goodies for a late night snack.
I looooove hiking so the next day was great! I couldn’t get over how green everything was!!! Our second stop was a cave and I wish we were given more time to explore it (i think we were caught in traffic on the way there…)
Overall, I had a lot of fun (thanks to the fun people that were also on the tour) but this is definitely better for people who are a little more go-with-the-flow 😉
